Michala Johnson is in her sophomore year as a Forward for the UConn Huskies. When she was in the fourth grade her mother suggested she try a sport other than soccer, and she’s been playing basketball ever since.
“One of my greatest accomplishments so far in basketball is coming to UConn to play at the number one school in the country.” Michala had visited Duke, Vanderbilt, and Maryland Universities, but it was her visit to UConn where she felt sure of herself, that UConn was where she really wanted to be.
The transition from high school to college was very difficult. “College is more competitive, and ten times harder. I thought high school was hard until I got to college, and realized high school was a breeze.”
What will Michala bring to this team: “We don’t really have a lot of big men here since Tina Charles left so I’m going to try to follow in her footsteps. I watched her play and know what she’s done in the past, and I will try to keep it going.”
Final Four bound: “We have to be very competitive, work hard, and stay focused. This is a physical game but it’s mental too. You have to know in your head, this is what I want to do, and where I want to go, and physically get there.”
