Maya Moore
Year: 2007 - 2011
Position: Forward
Hometown: Lawrenceville, GA

Maya Moore is in her freshman year as a Forward for the UConn Huskies.  She became interested in basketball around the age of six or seven when she started playing in a YMCA league.

Maya’s most memorable basketball highlights so far are having won three state championships in high school, and going undefeated her senior year.  “It was just amazing to have the whole school behind us, and to go out on top like that, I’ll always remember that.”

There were many reasons why Maya chose to go to UConn.  “I feel it’s a well-rounded place with great academics, and of course a great basketball program.  Every year they contend for a National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship, and that’s appealing to me.”  The environment, the fans, and the basketball atmosphere made it an easy choice for Maya.

For Maya the transition from high school to college was not difficult regarding basketball or academics.  The biggest adjustment has been creating a new home, and living on her own.

Final Four Bound:  When asked if she’s interested in reaching the Final Four this season Maya responded, “Oh yes, I’ve been watching it for years, and now to actually have a chance to be a part of it puts a smile on my face as we speak.”
