Maya Moore
Year: 2007 - 2011
Position: Forward
Hometown: Lawrenceville, Georgia

Maya Moore is in her senior year as a Forward for the UConn Huskies. She became interested in basketball around the age of six or seven when she started playing in the YMCA league.

Looking back at her career at UConn so far Maya said, “These last two years have been awesome. I kind of see them as one year because we pretty much had the same team, and what we did on the court was special, winning two National Championships. I’ll always treasure this group of people.”

As a senior now there are new challenges. “I think this will be the most rewarding year. We’ve had an unfortunate injury (Caroline Doty being out for the season), five new freshmen, and we have a big target on our back. Other teams will have more confidence to beat this young team. We’ll have our challenges but if we overcome them it’s going to be rewarding.”

There were many reasons why Maya chose to go to UConn. “I feel it’s a well-rounded place with great academics, and of course a great basketball program. Every year they contend for a National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship, and that’s appealing to me.” The environment, the fans, and the basketball atmosphere made it an easy choice for Maya.

Final Four Bound: “It’s going to take focus and people working outside of their comfort zone including me. I need to continue to grow as a leader and be mindful of what my team is doing. As long as we’re working hard to get better every day, we’ll be good.”
