Tahirah Williams
Year: 2005 - 2009
Position: Guard
Hometown: Montclair, NJ

Tahirah Williams is in her Junior year as a Guard for the UConn Huskies.  She became interested in basketball through her brother Isaac.  “I’ve always looked up to Isaac, and he loves basketball so as a little girl I followed him around playing basketball.”

Tahirah’s personal best memory in her basketball career so far was when her high school team won its first State Championship her freshman year of high school.  A best UConn memory was as a freshman when UConn was playing the University of Georgia during the NCAA tournament Sweet 16, and Barbara Turner hit the three-point shot advancing the team to the Elite Eight.

“I decided to come to UConn because it was my dream school.”  Tahirah enjoys being close enough to New Jersey to go home when she wants, and far enough away to experience being away from home.

Tahirah said the transition from high school basketball to college basketball is major.  At 5’10” tall in high school she played the center position.  In college she plays the guard position since she is among players that are up to 6’5” tall.  “Daily workouts, lifting weights and running, I never did that in high school.”

Final Four Bound:  Tahirah is looking forward to reaching the National Collegiate Athletic Association Final Four this season and winning it all, a National Championship hopefully.
